Cover image
The cover image is the hero of your event's public page, and also appears on portal cards and embeds.
Each event has a cover image: a single image that becomes the hero of your public event page, and also appears on attendee portal cards and in embeds.
Where to upload
Open your event, go to Settings, and find Portal under the "Where it appears" group. The Portal card image control is there. The image saves as soon as the upload completes: there's no separate Save button.
Upload dimensions: maximum 1600 px on either side, wide (landscape) aspect ratio. A 16:9 or similar landscape crop gives the best results across every surface where the image appears.
Where the cover image appears
Once uploaded, the cover image appears in three places:
- Public event page: the full-bleed hero at the top, with the event's date and title overlaid, unless a hero section on the custom builder has its own background set.
- Embeds: any registration widget or event embed that shows the event image.
- Attendee portal cards: the event cards shown to attendees in the portal's event directory and their upcoming-events list.
Overriding the hero on the custom builder
If you've opted into the custom builder, a hero section on your landing page can carry its own background image, separate from the cover image. When that's set, it takes over the hero on the custom-built page. The cover image still applies to portal cards and embeds either way.
The readiness checklist
The event Overview page shows a short checklist of what's left to finish before an event is ready, and "Upload a cover image" stays on that list until one is set. Use the checklist as a nudge; upload the image from Settings → Portal as described above.
Image optimization
Cover images render unoptimized: no automatic WebP conversion, no responsive resizing, and no quality compression happens on Mercleo's side.
Pre-optimize your image before uploading: export at 1600 px wide or narrower, use WebP or compressed JPEG, and target a file size under 500 KB for reliable load times on mobile connections.
