Matches
A match pairs mentors and mentees who are already on a program's roster. Each match is a working surface where you log sessions, set goals for mentees, and end the pairing when it wraps. You form matches from the Matches section of a program.
Forming a match
On the Matches tab, click Form match to open the Form a match from the roster dialog. The button is disabled until the program has at least one mentor and one mentee on the roster.
The dialog asks for three things:
- Match name: required. The Form match button in the dialog stays disabled until you type one, and submitting without a name returns "Give the match a name."
- Mentors: a checklist of the program's roster mentors. Each option shows the contact's name and their cohort, if any.
- Mentees: the same checklist for roster mentees.
Check at least one mentor and one mentee, then click Form match. If you leave either side empty, the dialog shows "Pick at least one mentor and one mentee." You can check more than one mentor or mentee for group mentoring: a single match supports several mentors and mentees together.
Inside a match
Click a match row to open its page. When you arrive from a program's Matches section, a Back to program link sits at the top. The page is organized into four cards: Overview, Participants, Sessions, and Goals.
The Overview card shows the match's current status, the cohort (if the match was formed within one), the date it was matched on, and the date it ended once closed.
Once a match exists, the Sessions and Goals cards on its page are where you log meetings and set mentee objectives. See Sessions and goals for how those work.
Adding and removing participants
The Participants card lists mentors and mentees in two columns. Use the Add a mentor… or Add a mentee… search box under each column to add a contact, or click the remove control beside a name to take them out.
Adding or removing a participant updates the mentor relationship on each contact's profile right away, so the pairing stays accurate on both sides. A contact cannot be both a mentor and a mentee in the same match: trying to add someone in the opposite role returns "That contact is already the mentee in this match." (or the equivalent for a mentor).
Ending or completing a match
When a pairing wraps up, close it from the Overview card. There are two controls:
- Mark completed: closes the match as Completed. This outcome counts toward your completion rate.
- End match: closes the match as Ended.
Both controls close the match, stamp the ended date, and end the mentor relationship on each participant's profile. Once a match is closed, the Overview card reads "This match is closed. Ending it has already ended each mentor relationship." and the participant manager is locked, so you can no longer add or remove mentors and mentees.
