Applying

When an organization runs a mentorship program, it shares a link where you can apply to take part as a mentor or a mentee. You open the link, pick your role, answer the program's questions, and confirm your email with a code. No account or password is needed to apply.

Two ways to apply

Most people apply this way: the organization sends the link directly, so you don't need to search for it. Open it and you're on the application form, with no sign-in required. The top of the page shows the organization's name, the program name, and a short description of the program if one was added.

If you already have access to your programs in the portal, for example from a ticket or another program at the same organization, you can also apply from there: open Mentorship and look under Open for applications. Applying this way skips the email code step below, since you're already signed in.

Choosing your role and cohort

At the top of the form, under I want to be a…, choose Mentee or Mentor. Mentee is selected to start. Your choice matters: each program has a separate set of questions for mentees and for mentors, so the questions below the form change when you switch roles.

If the program is split into groups, a Cohort dropdown appears. Pick the group you want to join, or leave it on No preference. If the program has no groups, the Cohort dropdown isn't shown.

Filling in your details and answers

The Your details card asks for your First name, Last name, and Email. You need a name (a first or last name is enough) and an email address to continue. Use an email you can check now, because the next step sends a code to it. Applying from inside the portal skips this card: you're already identified by your sign-in.

Below your details are the program's own questions, grouped into sections set by the organization. Question types vary and may include short text, longer text boxes, dates, email, phone, or web-address fields, single-choice dropdowns, multiple-choice checkboxes, yes/no checkboxes, and rating or scale buttons. Some questions only appear after you answer an earlier one a certain way.

A question marked with a red asterisk (*) is required and must be answered before you can move on. For a single-choice question that offers Other…, picking it reveals a Please specify box for your own answer.

Verifying your email

This step applies when you apply from the public link. Applying from inside the portal skips it, since you're already signed in there.

When the form is filled in, select Continue. The page checks your answers and then moves to a Verify your email step. A 6-digit code is emailed to the address you entered.

Enter the code in the Code field. The field accepts numbers only, and Submit application stays disabled until all six digits are entered. If you need to change anything you typed, select Back to return to the form.

After you submit

Once the code is accepted, the page shows Application submitted with a note that the organization will review your application and be in touch. Your application is now in the organization's review queue. There's no separate confirmation step for you to take.

What happens next is up to the organization. They review applications and decide whom to bring into the program. If you're accepted and matched with a counterpart, your match appears in your programs inside the portal. Sign in there with the same email you applied with: it's the same sign-in used across tickets, courses, and every program at the organization.

If you can't apply

A program only accepts applications while it's open. If applications are closed, the page shows the program name with the message "This program isn't accepting applications right now." If you open the link before the program is set up, you may instead see "Applications aren't open on this address." In either case, contact the organization to ask when applications open.

While filling in the form, you may see a short message if something is missing. A missing name shows "Tell us your name." A missing email shows "Enter your email." An address in the wrong format shows "Enter a valid email address." A required question left blank names the question, for example "Please answer: Why do you want to join?"
