Email preferences

The email preferences page lets you choose what email you receive from a sender by toggling marketing emails on or off. You open it from a link in an email's footer, and no sign-in is required.

The email preferences page lets you turn marketing emails from a sender on or off without signing in. You reach it from a link in the footer of a marketing email the sender sends you, and your choice takes effect right away.

The page shows the address it is managing, the name and logo of the sender when those are available, and one or two toggles depending on whether the sender has a contact record for you. Whatever you change is saved as soon as you flip the toggle.

Opening the page

A marketing email from the sender carries an Update preferences link in its footer. Click it to open the page. The link is unique to you, so the page already knows which address it is managing and you never enter a password.

You can also reach the page from the unsubscribe confirmation screen. After you unsubscribe, that screen offers a Manage your email preferences link, prefaced with "Changed your mind?" It takes you here, where you can turn marketing emails back on.

Near the top of the page you see the address being managed: "Managing preferences for" followed by your email address. Confirm it is the address you expect before changing anything.

Turning marketing emails on or off

The Marketing emails toggle controls "Newsletters, promotions, product updates, and announcements." When the toggle is on, you receive these emails. Turn it off to stop them.

When you turn it off, the page confirms "You've been unsubscribed from marketing emails." Turning it back on confirms "You've been resubscribed to marketing emails." You can switch it as many times as you like.

This setting applies to every marketing email from the sender, not to one campaign. Unsubscribing here stops all of the sender's marketing emails to your address, and turning the toggle back on clears that opt-out completely, however it was originally recorded.

Opting out of all email

If the sender keeps a contact record for you, a second toggle appears: All email communications, described as "Opt out of all email from this sender, including transactional messages." This goes further than the marketing toggle: it covers transactional email the sender would otherwise send you, not only marketing email.

Turning it off confirms "Email communications disabled." Turning it back on confirms "Email communications enabled."

If you do not see this toggle, the sender does not have a contact record tied to your address. The Marketing emails toggle still works in that case, so you can still opt out of marketing email.

Emails you keep getting either way

A note at the bottom of the page explains that "Essential account-security emails (password resets, login codes) are always delivered regardless of these preferences." These security messages reach you even with both toggles off, so you can always reset a password or receive a login code.

If the page opens to "Link expired or invalid", the link could not be verified and the toggles are not shown. The page's guidance is: "This preferences link is no longer valid. Check your most recent email from us for an updated link." This usually happens when the link was copied incompletely or altered, so open it straight from the email rather than retyping it.

If a toggle fails to save, the page shows "Something went wrong. Please try again." Flip the toggle again after a moment. If it keeps failing, reply to the email and ask the sender to update your preferences.
