Initiatives

An initiative sits above your projects: it links entire projects and individual epics together under one strategic effort, and rolls their completion up into one progress number. Use it when a piece of strategy spans more than one project's board.

Creating an initiative

From the Initiatives page, click New initiative and give it a name. Description, owner, and a target date are optional; health starts at On track and you set it manually as things change: On track, At risk, Off track, or Paused.

Linking projects and epics

From an initiative's page, use the link picker to search your account's projects and epics and add them. Each link is either a whole project or a single epic, never both at once for the same link. Unlink anything from the same list.

How progress is calculated

For a linked project, progress counts its items done versus total. For a linked epic, it counts that epic's child items done versus total. The initiative's overall progress is the combined done and total across every linked project and epic. Canceled items don't count toward either side of the ratio.

Archiving

Archive an initiative from its overflow menu once it's done or no longer active. It comes off the active list without unlinking anything or affecting the projects and epics it pointed at.
