Goals
A goal tracks an outcome, an objective, through one or more key results. Instead of eyeballing whether a goal is on track, you record check-ins against each key result and the goal's progress and status follow from them.
Creating a goal
A goal needs an objective (its name) and can optionally have a target date, an owner, and a reporting cadence: weekly, on a day you choose, or monthly, on a day of the month. The cadence drives a check-in reminder; it doesn't lock out check-ins any other time.
Key results
Each key result has a label and a metric kind, number, percent, currency, or boolean (done or not), plus a start value and a target value. Progress is how far the current value has moved from start toward target.
With more than one key result, give one a heavier weight so it counts for more of the goal's overall progress. Leave weight unset on every key result and they split evenly.
Checking in
A check-in records a new value for a key result, an optional confidence level, and a note. Recording a check-in with a status also updates the goal's own status, on track, at risk, off track, achieved, or dropped, in the same step: the check-in is how a goal's status changes, not a separate setting.
Linking work to a goal
Link individual work items to a goal from the goal page so the people doing the work show up alongside the metric moving it.
Finding goals
Goals show up in the same account-wide search as items and docs, so you can jump to one without navigating the goals list.
