Org chart

The org chart draws your teams and reporting lines as a canvas you can pan and zoom. It opens in view mode for everyone, and admins can switch to edit mode to change the structure directly on the canvas.

View and edit mode

View mode is read-only: you can click a team or a person to open their record alongside the chart, but nothing you do there changes the structure. Switching to edit mode, which only the Org admin role can do, turns on the moves described below.

Reconnecting reporting lines

In edit mode, drag from a node's connect handle onto another node to draw a new line. The chart then asks what the link means, since a drag between two nodes could mean either direction: whether the person or team you started from reports to the one you dropped on, or the other way around.

You can also grab an existing line by its end and drag it onto a different node to re-point it. A reporting line can only be re-grabbed at the child end; the parent end isn't draggable.

Breaking a line

Drag the end of a line off onto empty background to remove it, which detaches that reporting relationship or peer relationship. This only applies to grabbing the line itself: dragging a whole node onto empty background repositions it and detaches nothing, even in edit mode.

Peer relationships

Not every connection is a reporting line. When you draw a link, you can choose a dotted line, mentor, committee or collaborates-with relationship instead of a direct report. These can connect two people, two teams, or a person and a team, and can be grabbed and re-pointed from either end.

You can manage the same relationships as a list, without the canvas, from People > Structure > Relationships. Direct reporting and team hierarchy aren't shown there: that list is for the peer relationships only.

Adding people or teams from the chart

The chart's Add button creates a new team or a new person without leaving the canvas. It offers whichever kind the chart is currently showing: switch the chart to the people view before adding a person, or the teams view before adding a team.
