Tax rates
Tax rates are reusable named percentages you set up once and then apply to proposal line items. You create each rate on the Tax rates page under Settings → Payments. Once a rate exists, it appears in the Tax rate dropdown when you add a line item to a proposal.
Creating a tax rate
In the Add a tax rate card, fill in two fields and click Add tax rate:
- Name: the label shown in the line-item picker (for example
HST). Required. Submitting a blank name returns "Name is required." - Rate (%): the percentage as a number (for example
13for 13%). Required, must be zero or greater, and accepts decimals (so13.5is valid). A negative or non-numeric value returns "Rate must be a number ≥ 0."
New rates are created active and appear immediately in the Existing tax rates table and the line-item picker. There is no separate save step.
Reading the rates table
The Existing tax rates table lists every rate for your account, newest first, with three columns: Name, Rate (shown as a percentage), and Active (reading "Active" or "Inactive"). Each row has a pencil icon to edit and a trash icon to archive.
Before you create your first rate, the table reads "No tax rates yet. Use the form above to create the first one."
Editing a rate
Click the pencil icon on a row to open the Edit tax rate dialog, where you can change the Name, the Rate (%), and the Active toggle. Click Save changes to apply them. The same "Name is required." and "Rate must be a number ≥ 0." rules apply here.
Archiving a rate
Click the trash icon to archive a rate. A confirmation prompt asks "Archive tax rate "…"? It won't appear when picking a rate on new line items." Confirming sets the rate inactive and removes it from the line-item picker. The record stays in the database, so the tax already calculated on past line items is untouched.
Archiving is a soft delete rather than a hard one. If you need a rate to be available again, create it fresh from the Add a tax rate card, since archived rates are not shown in the table or the picker.
Applying a rate to a line item
Tax rates are used on a deal's Proposals tab, where each proposal's line items live. When you add or edit a line item, the Tax rate dropdown lists your rates, each shown as its name plus percentage (for example HST (13.00%)). The default selection is No tax, which leaves the line untaxed. See Proposals for how line items work.
Tax rates are account-wide and shared across every proposal. You don't set them per deal: define each rate once here, and it's available on every proposal in your workspace. A product in your catalogue can carry a default tax rate that pre-fills the picker, which you can still override per line.
